Registered Dietitians

Registered Dietitians are nutrition experts. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science program at an American Dietetic Association-accredited university, a graduate must complete a dietetic internship and pass a registration exam to receive Registered Dietician credentials.

Registered Dietitians help individuals understand nutrition and how it affects their bodies, their weight, the disease process and much more.

Our Registered Dietitians will work with patients to:

  • Set realistic weight and nutritional goals, identify the steps needed to achieve them and monitor progress
  • Modify their diet to facilitate weight loss or gain
  • Incorporate dietary likes/dislikes into individualized eating plans
  • Discuss food-buying habits and budget constraints

Specific topics that a registered dietitian may discuss with a patient include:

  • Disease processes
  • The relationship between disease, diet and exercise
  • Food facts and fallacies
  • Extra nutritional requirements during conditions such as pregnancy or illness
  • Nutrition content of foods and their effects on disease prevention or control
  • Medication overview and food/drug interaction
  • Identifying wise food choices at home and in restaurants
  • Analyzing and comparing food labels for healthier choices
  • How to use blood glucose meters and evaluate results
  • Insulin administration
